Disentangling Social Determinants of LLM Value Alignment Across Europe Researchers analyzed the alignment of large language models (LLMs) with human values in Europe, using data from the European Social Survey.
They examined 10 commercial LLMs in relation to 15 socio-demographic variables and country of residence.
The results showed that LLMs exhibit uneven alignment with the values of different socio-demographic groups, particularly regarding education, income, occupation, and religion.
Both the country of residence and demographic factors play a significant role in explaining discrepancies in value alignment.
Why this matters: As language models become a primary source of information and advice, understanding their alignment with human values is critical for society.
